Some Regency items for my HRR18 talk.

Can’t make it to my Antiques Show And Tell talk at The Historical Romance Retreat in Riverside California next week? Here are a few pictures of some of the lovely Regency-era antiques I’ll be discussing, including a beaded reticule, some dashing portrait miniatures, French fashion plates, scent bottles, vesta cases, button hooks, and Vinaigrettes. Oh my!

Inspiration for The Devil To Pay – Travel Wanderlust.

The Devil To Pay is set in central Italy, a place I’ve been lucky enough to visit several times in my life. I imagined a fictional Tuscan town near the coast, rather like the real fortified medieval town of San Giminiano, near Siena, but with houses that slope steeply down to the sea, like Positano or Ravello. I celebrated my 14th wedding anniversary last month, and was lucky enough to spend my honeymoon in this amazing 15th century Saracen watchtower on the Amalfi Coast, near Positano. It was originally built as a lookout tower to keep watch for Barbary pirates from North Africa. I’ve been planning a return visit (now with three children in tow!) ever since. Maybe this was where the first seeds of an idea for The Devil To Pay were born?

Recreating Fragonard’s painting ‘The Swing’!

This evening I tried on the 18th century-style dress I’ve had made for the Historical Romance Retreat in Riverside next month . . .and decided it would be funny to recreate Fragonard’s painting ‘The Swing’!
As you do, on a boring Wednesday night.
What do you think?! The kids think I’ve lost may marbles! I’ve added a picture of Fragonard’s original, for comparison. I couldn’t find any handsome chaps to lie on the ground or give me a push, sadly. And the dismount was rather inelegant!
